Guwahati Fire

On the night of 12 November 2015, on the ocassion of Diwali, the festival of lights, a section of the main business district of Guwahati, Assam, caught fire. Called Fancy Bazaar, buildings in this area are stacked tightly against one another and house an enormous amount of textiles and other goods sold in the markets of the city. The fire raged on for the whole night and it took more than 30 fire tenders to bring it under control. More than 24 hours later, it was still smouldering in the ruins of what it had destroyed. These are some images of the smouldering devastation.
